COMPASS Testing

The COMPASS is a computerized adaptive testing system that helps place students into appropriate mathematics, reading, and writing classes. Students who score less than 18 in Reading, English or Math are required to take the COMPASS test. In addition, students wanting to take college algebra must have a math ACT of at least 20 to be exempt from the math COMPASS test.

Cost: There is no fee for first-time test takers. The re-testing fee is $7.00 per section or $20.00 for all three sections. Pay in the Business Office and bring the receipt to retest.

Test Schedule: Walk-in testing is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Assessment Center room 110 in the Anderson Technical Building. Bring a photo ID to the test.

Beginning July 15, 2009 all first-time examinees will be required to attend an exam orientation session prior to testing.  Sessions will be held each hour from 8:30am – 1:30pm in the Assessment Center.

The COMPASS Placement Test is designed to help you and your advisor determine which classes you should take as you begin coursework at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.  It is important for you to prepare for the test to ensure that you are placed in the correct program sequence and minimize the cost of your education in terms of time and money.  You can prepare for the placement test by requesting a copy of sample questions from the Skills Enhancement Center Room 106 or the Assessment Center Room 110 both in the Anderson Technical Building.
